Alan Freedman is the Director of the Jewish Sports Heritage Association, (JSHA), a  not-for-profit education organization he started in 2015, with the goal of helping to educate the public about the role Jewish men and women have played, and continue to play,  in the world of sports, an area of Jewish accomplishment often overlooked. Prior to creating JSHA, Alan was the Founder and Director of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, a role he held for 23 years.

 

   Alan is retired as the Executive Director of Temple Israel, Lawrence, Long Island's oldest reform synagogue, and he had been in that role from 2015 - 2021. Prior to that he had been the Associate Executive Director of the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack, N.Y. Among the programs Alan was responsible for at the YJCC, were the JCC Maccabi Youth Games, Suffolk hosted the Regional Games in 1995, and Alan was the Competitions Director and Suffolk Delegation Head at those games.
